Loki Laufeyson, mostly known as Loki is a fictional character from Marvel Comics. He is the biological son of Laufey, the ruler of Frost Giants in Jotunheim. However, he got abandoned and left to die right after his birth.

Later, Odin found Loki and took him to Asgard. In Asgard, Frigga and Odin raised Loki as the prince of Asgard. The use of magic and sorcery to fuel his evil desires gained him the name "God of Mischief".

While growing up, Loki always witnessed a strong relationship between Odin and Thor. This created a lot of jealousy in him. And that is when he started plotting a way to become the ruler of Asgard.

In Comics, Loki's mystical powers include shapeshifting, astral projection, telepathy, hypnosis, and teleportation. Not only that, he possesses magical abilities as well. And because of that, he got blessed with an increased lifespan and superhuman abilities.

Loki vs Thor in Marvel Comics

Being the God of Mischief, it was always easy for Loki to make countless enemies. But the most challenging enemy that he has faced is his own brother, Thor.

As mentioned above, jealousy is the reason behind the feud between two brothers. Ever since Loki started plotting to dethrone Thor as the ruler of Asgard, Thor has become a lifelong arch-enemy to Loki.

At one point in time, Loki set his sights on the presidency of the United States of America. With a well-planned idea, he went on to announce the beginning of his campaign. That is when we were able to witness President Loki in action.

In the end, Loki lost the election. But it got revealed that it was his plan all along to split the votes for another candidate to win with ease.

Is Loki in Norse Mythology the same as Loki from the Marvel Universe?

Loki from the Norse Mythology and Marvel Universe is somehow similar in terms of powers and mischief. But talking about the differences, Loki portrayed the role of adopted brother and son of Thor and Odin in Marvel Studios.

Whereas in Norse Mythology, Loki depicted the role of a companion of fellow Aesir gods, Thor and Odin.

Loki in Marvel Cinematic Universe

Just like Marvel Comics, Loki has a similar story in MCU as well. He is the biological son of Laufey who is the ruler of the Frost Giants. After getting abandoned, Odin and Frigga raised him as their own son.

However, he always wanted to take the throne of Asgard. This made him hate Odin and Thor. Because of that, he sabotaged the coronation of Thor by letting the Frost Giants attack Asgard.

Is Loki a Hero or Villain?

Loki's storyline starts as a Villain. He continuously attempts to conquer Asgard and even Earth. And because of this, people often see him as a Villain. To fulfill his desire, he has even joined hands with some powerful Villains in Marvel Universe.

All of this started because of his jealousy toward Thor. But with the recent development in Loki's storyline, he has become an Antihero.

Loki's Appearance in Marvel Cinematic Universe

Loki made his first appearance in Marvel Cinematic Universe back in 2011. He introduced himself as the God of Mischief, Loki in the movie "Thor". Ever since people have enjoyed his performance. And recently, he has managed to become a fan favorite as well.

Loki is famous for appearing again even after his death. But with "Avengers: Infinity War", Loki was gone for good. However, the storyline created an alternate timeline where Loki is alive.

In 2021, Loki appeared in his standalone series "Loki" on Disney+. And in the finale episode, it got confirmed that we will be getting Loki season 2 in Disney+ as well.

Loki in the first Thor movie

Loki made his Marvel Cinematic Universe debut with the first Thor movie. At the start of the film, Loki was quite subtle and passive. But this was just a fake personality he was using to hide his sociopathic mind.

At one point in the movie, Loki snapped his mind. Then he started developing a feeling of confusion and rage which led to a feud with Thor. At the end of the movie, he let himself fall from the Bifrost Bridge into the empty void of space.

Loki in The Avengers

The Avengers was the first crossover movie to include a group of Marvel superheroes. Loki returned in this movie as the main Villain. In this movie, Loki had become more dangerous than ever before.

During this movie, Loki stabbed Thor and then laughed at his sentiment as well. From this scene, it was clear that Loki had become more sociopath than before. He even brought an army of Chitauri aliens without caring about innocent lives.

This caused the Battle of New York. But no matter how sociopath he had become, the Avengers managed to deal with him and even capture him.

Loki in Thor: The Dark World

Loki returned in the movie "Thor: The Dark World" as well. At the beginning of the movie, Loki showed remorse for his actions during the Battle of New York. He even goes on to team up with Thor to defeat Malekith.

However, Loki does get angry at Thor at one point since he was not able to save Frigga. Later, the brothers go against Malekith and even manage to defeat him. In the end, he even fakes his death so that he can return to Asgard.

Loki in Thor: Ragnarok 

In "Thor: Ragnarok", Loki continued ruling Asgard in disguise of Odin. He didn't care about the sufferings of the Nine Realms. Being able to rule Asgard allowed him to reduce his grudge against Thor and Odin.

And when Odin passed away, he even showed his concern. Not only that, he even started to develop a positive feeling toward his brother, Thor. The two brothers joined hands to go against their sister, Hela. After some struggle, Thor did manage to get the victory with the help of Loki.

Loki in Avengers: Infinity War

Loki had a very small scene in "Avengers: Infinity War". Seeing Thor suffering from Thanos's hands, he gave up the Tesseract. He even tried to kill Thanos but failed. At last, he sacrificed himself to save Thor.

Loki in Avengers: Endgame

Just like Infinity War, Loki had limited screen time in "Avengers: Endgame" as well. He appeared when the Avengers did a time travel to retrieve the Infinity Stones.

Captain America, Bruce Banner, Ant-Man & Iron Man time travels back to the Battle of New York scene where Loki just got arrested. While trying to retrieve the Tesseract, Iron Man gets knocked away by The Hulk. Tony Stark loses the Tesseract in the process. And, Loki manages to take the Tesseract and finally uses it to escape. This event creates an alternate timeline for Loki.

Loki in Disney+ series, Loki

"Loki" is the first standalone project for the character, Loki. The storyline follows the events after Loki escapes using the Tesseract  creating an alternate timeline. Let's have an in-depth look at Loki Series. Just like other series from Marvel Studios, this series does give continuity to the storyline. Michael Waldron is the head writer of this series whereas Kate Herron is the director. This series premiered on 9 June 2021 and streamed on Disney+.

The Ending of the Loki Series Explained!!

The ending of the Loki series got many Marvel fans confused. If you are the one that got confused, we got you covered up. 

At the end of the series, we were able to see that Sylvie killed He Who Remains. This causes the timeline to branch out in a rapid way. 

After the incident, Loki finds himself at the Time Variance Authority (TVA) office once again. Upon reaching there, he gets confused. And rushes through offices to find Agent Mobius. When he finds Mobius, he starts explaining what happened. 

But Agent Mobius doesn't have any idea regarding what he is saying. As a matter of fact, Mobius doesn't even recognize who Loki is. 

Then, Loki turns toward the center of the archive room only to find out that the statue of He Who Remains has replaced the statue of the Time Keepers. And this means he has ended up in a different timeline. 

The Bond Between Loki and Sylvie

One of the most talking points about the series was the relationship between Loki and Sylvie. The new character Sylvie who debuted in MCU is one of the variants of Loki. So it is fair to say that she is a female version of Loki herself. But while spending time with each other, Loki and Sylvie develops a bond with each other. 

Loki and Sylvie even go on to kiss each other. That sounds quite weird. Kissing your own variant is definitely a weird thing. The fact that Loki and Sylvie kissed each other, we can assume that Loki is in love with himself. Talking about Loki's female variant brings an interesting question.
