Nick Fury

Nick Fury is a fictional character from Marvel Comics. He is a spy, former Director of S.H.I.E.L.D., and founder of the Avengers. He began his career in the United States Army, reaching the rank of Colonel before getting discharged honorably.  

During the Cold War, Fury eventually became a CIA officer, mostly operating in Soviet territory. He even joined S.H.I.E.L.D. to combat Earth's most dangerous enemies.

Nick Fury in Marvel Comics 

Nick Fury, the eldest of three children, grew up in New York City with his brother, Jacob, and sister, Dawn. His mother died while he was very young. And his father, Jack Fury, an American pilot who joined the British war effort during World War I, remarried. Later, the children got raised by the stepmother.

While growing up, Fury became great friends with Red Hargrove, whom he helped keep out of trouble while living on the tough streets of Hell's Kitchen. Fury was no stranger to controversy himself, but he kept it mostly to the boxing ring where he fought. He was even in the Police Athletic League where he became one of the best marksmen.

Secret Invasion in Marvel Comics

Nick Fury was well aware of the Skrull plans even before the Skrulls exposed themselves. When an impostor posing as Contessa de la Fontaine attempted to woo him and steal his S.H.I.E.L.D. passcodes. 

Fury became suspicious and killed her. To confront this threat, he went into hiding and began recruiting a new team of Howling Commandos. That team consisted of unregistered superpowered young people specifically trained by Fury himself.

When the invasion began, Fury led his Commandos immediately into action in New York City. They destroyed Skrulls while assisting in the evacuation of civilians and downed heroes. 

How did Nick Fury Lose his Eye in Marvel Comics?

Nick Fury lost an eye in an explosion in Marvel Comics when his convoy got attacked in the desert. His convoy was transporting Logan, a.k.a. Wolverine, the military's secret weapon. Wolverine saved Nick by carrying him to safety during the onslaught, but Fury still lost his sight.

Civil War in Marvel Comics

When the superhero Civil War broke out, Nick Fury went into hiding. He used ancient decommissioned S.H.I.E.L.D. safe-houses, the whereabouts of which were only known to him.

Fury permitted Cap and his Secret Avengers to utilize one of them as a base. And aided their cause, particularly the reconstituted Winter Soldier's activities.

Nick Fury in Marvel Cinematic Universe

Just like Marvel Comics, Nick Fury has a similar story in Marvel Cinematic Universe as well. He is a spy, former Director of S.H.I.E.L.D., and founder of the Avengers. He is also the one to recruit different super-powered individuals into one team known as the Avengers

Is Nick Fury a Hero or Villain?

From fighting against Earth's most dangerous enemies to Avengers initiative, Fury has come a long way. But throughout these years, he always had good intentions for saving humanity. And because of such nature, it is fair to say that Nick Fury is a Hero. 

How does Nick Fury Lose his Eye?

Nick Fury lost his eye when Goose scratched him. Goose is, of course, no ordinary cat, he is a Flerken which are fierce alien creatures resembling Earth cats. 

They have segmented dimensions within their bodies, allowing them to safeguard items. Though Fury first dismisses the scrape, it is later revealed that Goose's scratch causes him to lose his eye.

Nick Fury's Appearance in Marvel Cinematic Universe

Nick Fury made his first appearance in Marvel Cinematic Universe back in 2008. Since then he has appeared in a total of 12 MCU projects as of 2022. And it seems like he is not going to stop anytime soon.

With "Secret Invasion" and "The Marvels", Fury will be making his 14th appearance. And since he is one of the important characters in MCU, we might see him in future projects as well. 

Nick Fury in Captain Marvel

Even though Captain Marvel got released quite late in the MCU franchise, the story shown in the film is quite old. Well, a young Nick Fury makes his way in the film. And from this, you can clearly deduce the timeline of this film. 

In this film, we were able to see Nick Fury team up with Carol Danvers, Maria Rambeau, Talos, and The Skrulls. Upon the victory, Fury even starts playing with Goose. But she scratches Fury's left eye, leaving a nasty scar causing him to go blind. 

Avengers Initiative

Nick Fury's encounter with Carol Danvers taught him that S.H.I.E.L.D cannot protect the Earth against interstellar dangers. Because of this, he launched the Protectors Initiative, which he eventually called the Avengers Initiative.

According to the Initiative, S.H.I.E.L.D. would seek out individuals with unique abilities and powers. The initiation started with the recruitment of Iron Man portrayed by Robert Downey Jr. Followed by Captain America portrayed by Chris Evans and Thor portrayed by Chris Hemsworth

The team completed after the recruitment of Hulk portrayed by Mark Ruffalo, Hawkeye portrayed by Jeremy Renner, and Black Widow portrayed by Scarlett Johansson

Nick Fury in Avengers: Infinity War

Nick Fury had a very small scene in "Avengers: Infinity War". He was driving through Atlanta with Maria Hill, having no idea what was going on.

Soon after realizing the situation, Fury ran back to his car and grabbed his pager, which he used to transmit an emergency alert to Captain Marvel

Tony Stark's Funeral

After the death of Tony Stark, aka Iron Man during the events of Endgame, everyone was present at the funeral. Amongst the crowd, Nick Fury was present as well alongside Maria Hill.

Nick Fury in Spider-Man: No Way Home

Nick Fury went on to appear in "Spider-Man: No Way Home" as well. But at the end of the video, it got revealed that it wasn't Nick Fury. Talos disguised himself as Nick Fury while Nick Fury was enjoying his vacation in a space station.  

Nick Fury in Disney+ Series, Secret Invasion

Secret Invasion is a comic book crossover storyline based on the characters from Marvel Comics. The plot revolves around the Skrulls, a race of extraterrestrial shapeshifters. They have quietly replaced several superheroes in the Marvel Universe with imposters over the course of years previous to the overt invasion.

A six-episode television miniseries based on the plot and produced by Marvel Studios as part of the Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) is set to premiere on Disney+ in 2023.

Is Nick Fury a Skrull?

Nick Fury is a major character in the MCU. It's not confirmed whether he is a Skrull all along. But it is quite sure that he is not a Skrull. At the end of "Spider-Man: No Way Home", we got to know that it was Talos who disguised himself as Nick Fury during his absence. 

Is Nick Fury Dead? Where is Nick Fury? 

No, Nick Fury isn't dead. He is in fact enjoying his vacation in a space station. But he is going to end his vacation after the events of the Secret Invasion.
